The theme that I gathered based off of these reddit stories mostly pertained to the power of social media and technology, and its influence on the reality we live in. For example, in the podcast https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2024/01/05/sign-from-the-universe, the discourse was about  astrology and how integrated it’s become in society thanks to social media. Many believe in future telling, zodiac signs, and the power of the universe, using all of these concepts in their day to day lives. The pros and cons were discussed, considering the question of how this belief can be beneficial for some and harmful for others. Additionally, in the podcast https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2023/12/29/encore-today-tomorrow, a story was discussed about a man receiving the help of Mexican immigrants when no one else offered. His story was influential, inspiring many others to help others around them, and encouraging others to do the same. In my opinion, this was an excellent example of how social media can be used to spread positivity and induce positive change on people’s lives. Finally, in the podcast https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2024/01/24/deepfake-cheer-squad, the power of technology and artificial intelligence was discussed in terms of how it can harm society. “Deepfakes” are fake videos and images of real individuals that have been created by the use of AI. In this story, a high school cheerleader sent images and videos of her teammates vaping and performing sexual acts to their parents, coach, and her teammates. These images and videos were initially believed to be deepfakes. However, it was proved otherwise in court, which sparked the conversation of how AI can not only be abused to wrongfully criminate others, but can also blur the lines of truth in terms of photo and video evidence.
